What is your background, and what do you do in Barmetrix?

“I come from Canberra (Australia), where I earned my Bachelors Degree in Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations. My background is in retail management, PR and Science management (Government research and private enterprise) – although Sean likes to remind me that I am also the only person he knows with Puppeteer and Professional Wrestler on their resume!

I run the Sales, Marketing and Events for Barmetrix Australia, doing things like putting on the PROmanager Workshops and publishing the newsletter. I also assist in the management of the Australian operations, like the local training arm of the business amongst other things. I play a very diverse and integral role – just the way I like it.”

How did you come to be part of the team, and what keeps you going?

“Initially I intended to move into advertising but became disillusioned about some of the ethics and culture within the industry. A recruitment company asked me to consider a position that they had been very impressed with and thought I might be a match for, as the client was looking for a top line performer. It was the Sales & Marketing Coordinator position at Barmetrix. The role was quite different to what I had in mind when I began my search, but was intrigued by the pull of the challenge. I went to the interview, caught their vision and now find it hard to imagine being anywhere else.”

How have you grown since working here?

“My discipline, expertise and experience have all been tested and stretched since arriving. I came in with terrible (personal) time management, and thinking I knew everything. That didn’t last long, working for a brilliant senior management team! I know now though, that I have what it takes to get the job done, whatever it is. If I were to pin it down to any one thing Barmetrix has taught me, it would be to always stretch your goals, always aim to achieve above the limits of the possible.”

What is the best part about turning up for work?

“The mentors in the business (our senior management team) are incredible people. Great entrepreneurs and communicators with intellects to match. Given the amount I have learned, and am learning from them – I would work for them for free. My wife has encouraged me not to make this offer to them though…”

What would you tell someone considering a job with Barmetrix?

“Go for it. Every single person here knows their job inside out and is 100% committed – to seeing you, our clients, and this industry succeed. It is a phenomenal thing to be part of. You really don’t get many opportunities to join a team like this.”
