Avoid Hiring the Wrong Leadership Quick Tip

Check out this quick video where I describe a technique I use that can MULTIPLY YOUR CHANCE of hiring the right person for the role.

Good Questions
CoffeeI decided to try out a new coffee shop this morning. I
could immediately tell that there was something different
about this place.

It was clear that the staff LOVE coffee by the way they
went about their business. They seemed to be fully
engaged and were excited to share their enthusiasm with
their customers.

Then they took it a step further.

After I took the first sip of my latte, the young barista
eagerly asked 2 questions:

  1. What do you give it on a scale of 1 to 10?
  2. What would make it a 10?

These two simple, pointed questions accomplish so much:
they ensure satisfaction, they allow valuable feedback, and, perhaps most of all, they show a commitment to excellence that is rare in today’s market place.

The fact that they are delivered face to face, rather than through a comment card or internet survey, ensures immediate results and fast feedback. These two questions are far more helpful than the standard, “Everything OK?”

Abundance Is Our FutureTed Talk

It has been a tough few years for so many. Recessions cultivate a scarcity mindset which can be hard to snap out of.

Add to that, the sensational BAD NEWS we are bombarded with on a daily basis: failed political leadership, crime, and natural disasters, to name a few!

Do yourself a favor and spend 16 minutes with Peter Diamandis as he shares with you a completely different view of the future.

This is a remarkable talk and worth the investment of your time.

Beating the Odds

Beating the Odds

Touching the VoidRecently, I watched a documentary called Touching the Void. It’s an inspiring true account of two climbers who successfully summit the previously unclimbed west face of Siula Grande in Peru. The story details how one of the climbers must descend alone, against the odds, after falling and badly breaking his leg.

Three lessons jumped out at me that I believe apply to my career. After all, sometimes in business, it’s more like climbing a mountain than a ladder:

  1. Start with the end in mind – beating the odds did not require a full understanding of each step of the journey, but he needed to know where the finish line was.
  2. Break the “impossible” into tiny possible pieces – he was almost certain he would not make it down the mountain in his condition, but he knew he could make it another 20 feet. And then another 20 feet…
  3. Continue making decisions – the best decision was the right one. The second best was the wrong one. But he knew the worst was not making any decision at all. Failing to decide and act meant getting stuck and losing all momentum.

Following these 3 steps could help you tackle that big project you have been putting off for the last couple of years! Post It
